The south-west wing of La Micaela is a spacious one bedroom apartment that is available to rent for short stays.

The apartment has its own entrance which opens to the kitchen, dining and sitting room area. This has three large windows, one overlooking the pool area and one opening into the interior courtyard. A door leads to the double bedroom which has an en-suite bathroom. From the bedroom, French doors open onto the courtyard at one side and a terrace the other. The terrace is perfect for breakfast in the shade during summer and taking a private sunbath in cooler weather.

Come and enjoy the calm and tranquility of the Spanish countryside while sunbathing by the pool or seek the shade of the lushly planted Arab style courtyard.

La Micaela is close to the village of Vera which has a general market on Saturdays and a good variety of shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants.

The Mediterranean Sea is less than a ten minute drive away. Passing the flamingo filled nature reserve, you will find Vera’s six kilometres of deep sandy beaches and both top quality beachside restaurants as well as more casual beach bars. One kilometre of the beach area is designated for naturists for those who like to feel the sun and sea breezes on the whole of their body.

In the cooler weather La Micaela makes a great base from which to explore eastern andalucia. There’s amazing geology including a giant geode that you can climb inside and the Cabo de Gata National park with its extinct volcanos and old goldmine. In fact there are abandoned mines all over the area from which were extracted a range of metals including silver. You can book a guided visit to the gypsum caves which are a part of one of the largest gypsum deposits in the world.

On the cultural side there is a wonderful art complex close to marble quarries, an art collection in a local castle as well as film studios where the spaghetti westerns were shot. The studios are still in use, there’s a western town you can visit where re-enactments of battles with outlaws are regularly performed.

Almeria City, one hour drive away is well worth exploring, and just beyond it begins the Alpujarra valley with its lush microclimate and white hillside villages. Granada and it’s Arab palaces are about 2 hours away, the ancient port of Cartagena with many Roman buildings is an hour fifteen minutes from La Micaela as is the bustling city of Murcia. There’s also Jaén, Úbeda and the Cazorla National Park under three hours away.

I’ll put links to websites for all these places, and any more that come mind, at the end of this post.
